Moving boxes? Check. Change of address forms? Check. Insurance? Check!
If you’re moving to Connecticut, Access Health CT can help make sure you have health and dental insurance.
Access Health CT (AHCT) is the state’s official health insurance marketplace. We can help you enroll and find any financial help you may qualify for to lower your costs.
When Can You Enroll?
Moving to Connecticut is a Qualifying Life Event (QLE). That means you may be eligible to sign up for health or dental insurance outside of the yearly Open Enrollment Period. You’ll get a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) for 60 days from the date you move.
You can enroll any time of the year if you qualify for HUSKY Health (Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)) or the Covered CT Program, or if you are an American Indian or Alaska Native.
Steps to Enroll:
- Before you start, have this information ready for you and anyone in your household applying for insurance:
- Dates of Birth
- Social Security numbers
- Visa, Green Card or immigration documents
- Most recent Form W-2 and/or Form 1040 or Form 1099
- Current insurance coverage, if you have it
- Paystubs, Profit & Loss statements, or other employment information to confirm income for everyone in your tax household
- A recent utility bill from your previous address AND a utility bill from your new Connecticut address to prove your move.
- Create an account
- You can start by creating an account. This will allow you to compare your insurance options. You can also see if you qualify for financial help to lower your costs. If you qualify for HUSKY Health or the Covered CT Program, we can help you sign up.
- Look at the different insurance options to find one that best meets your needs. Health plans have different costs and offer different benefits. You’ll want to think about how often you visit the doctor and what prescriptions you take.
- Choose and enroll in health or dental insurance.
- If you pick a health or dental plan, remember to make your first payment(s) to start your coverage.
You can also find a Certified Broker who can help you pick a plan that works best for you and your family. Certified Brokers offer free help. You can find one who is near you and speaks your preferred language.
Moving to a new state comes with many changes, but getting health and dental insurance doesn’t have to be stressful. AHCT is here to help you every step of the way.
